Poetry Inspiration Board: Twilight

There is a secret space
between heaven and earth,
Between the living and the dead
Where the nameless
wander back to
burial beds.

Tread lightly
It is a sacred time.
Look up and you will see
the changing of heavenly guards.
They paint the sky path bright
and welcome every
star to shine.

Club of The Living Dead

This one goes way back, an ode to my college days.  Clubbing served it's mindless purpose in my life for a space of a year.  At the end of my little journey I realized just how mindless it was.
FUN yes, but mindless.
"What would aliens be thinking if they saw us right now?"
That was the kind of crap that would run through my head, so naturally, I was difficult to hit on.
That didn't stop me from dancing alone.  HaHaHa!

Endless...

You can write something into existence.
You can write through generations of time.
But you can never write something into extinction.
Written words will only give birth to more words and thought.
Endless...

Hallowed Ground

Hallowed ground
on a busy street.
A lifeless body covered
in a golden sheet.

I saw your picture,
I cried to heaven.
A great struggle took place in my heart.
On one side rage
the other side peace
and they fought all night
like ravenous beasts.

When the morning came
I felt the calm.
Peace had prevailed
the battle was won.

I know the cold ground is undeserving of you.
I know your family is struggling without you.
I know that I ran to hug my own child.
I know I did not let go for a long while.

But death, there is no death,
just a changing of worlds.
and you will sail on
your flag unfurled.

As for us,
who on earth still remain
we will raise your sacred flag.
And in so doing,
we will call all to overcome
bitterness and strife
with goodness and light.
And we will not stop
until your battle is won.

Hollowed ground,
on a busy street.
We wait for you,
an eye on the East.

Haiku for Pakistan: My Lambs Are Gone

Wolves came in the night.
My precious lambs are not found.
My heart is broken.

It's strange how concerns can change in a second.  The last thought on my mind before sleeping was to not forget my daughter's birthday cake in the morning.  I awoke to the devastating story of the tragedy in Pakistan.  I feel connected to these people though I'm on the other side of the world.  I am Christian and I have children like them.  They are most precious to me above anything on earth.  If I lost a child, a piece of me would be gone forever and I would have to go on through life less whole.  I am praying for comfort to fill the hearts of those mourning on this most sacred day.

The Goddess

With hair black as pitch.
A crimson dress light as mist.
May I steal a glance?

Haiku inspired by my mother's dream.  She dreamt of an ancestor that her family named "The Goddess."  It is disrespectful to call her by her real name.  In the dream she saw the Goddess sitting by the waters edge on a pier.  She was stirring the water gently with her hand.  My mother peered at her through a pocket mirror.  Her beauty was striking and that's a good thing because, if she likes you she will appear as a young beautiful woman.  If you catch her on a bad day, not so much.
